A lot of people have asked me how I create fractals like these in Apophysis:

It's very easy to be honest.
Just start with a new blank fractal by clicking the button in the left corner of the editor window. Now you'll have two triangles. Leave the firts triangle just as it is. I don't make any adjustments to that one. I'm only using the second triangle here.

Select the second triangle and flip it horizontal. Then go to the variations tab. Set linear to 0 and disc to 1. After that you'll have to move this triangle just a little out of the centre. Up, down, left, right, it doesn't matter. It has to be near the center somewhere between 0 and 0.1 units but just not excactly at 0,0.

And now the fun part can begin. Start rotating the triangle. Most of the time I start rotating at 5 degrees. As soon as I see something interesting I set the rotation degree to 1 and go back and forward to see if there is something nice in there. And when I do find something interesting I set rotation to 0.1 degree to tweak until it's perfect. Also moving left, right, up and down by 0.01 unit can make it better sometimes.

When your window is zooming in or out very far then you have to adjust the master scale to have a good image of what you are doing. Master scale can be found in the adjust window on the rendering tab. Set it to 80 or 85 to get a full screen view of your fractal.

When you're finished/satisfied render the flame with quality set to at least 2000.

To give you an example, these are the parameters of this flame:

<flame name="Apophysis-060327-3g" size="854 678" center="-0.00264560612407017 0.047382161133573" scale="487.785291375291" oversample="2" filter="0.3" quality="5" background="0 0 0" brightness="10" gamma="1" >

Lately I've been a little distracted by a new program I have gotten myself a few weeks ago. It's a 3D figure design program called Poser and I love to play with it.

But eventhough it's very much fun to play with, I can't stay away from Apophysis for more then 5 days. Every now and then I have to create some flames. As if it's relaxing or something like that.

So now you know why I haven't been around here much lately and haven't given much replies to the comments I've got. I promise to better myself.

OK enough said. If someone is looking for me, I'll probably be in the gallery of one of my friends, snooping around to see what the latest trend in Apophysis-land is.

Zueuk was one of the first people here that created beautiful patterns in Apophysis. I tried and I tried and succeeded to create patterns. While trying I found that if I added transforms in a certain way it created a pattern. This could be done by a script, I thought.

While I was teaching myself how to write a script, Carl came with a script. A script that gave very nice results but the way transforms were added was completely different from the way I was making my patterns. So I went on.

And now, weeks later (meanwhile I've learned a lot about scripting), I've finished three scripts. Still don't know wich one I like best so I've put all three of them in a zip file for everyone to download.

Have to warn you though, these will not create patterns as beautiful as Zueuk's, but maybe someday he is going to share his secret with all of us.

If you're interested you can download the file at following location:
www.inge.org/aposcripts/Script…

And of course feel free to let me know wich one you like best and what you think about them. Also negative critique is welcome because that will help me create better scripts.

O, and last but certainly not least I have to thank Holly for testing the scripts.

Update:
The first two scripts work best with variations linear, sinusodal and spherical (set one, two or all three of them in the options window an then create a new batch and apply the script).

Well................... I'm not planning to keep a journal here.

But anyway, thank you for visiting.

Sometimes I like to play with photoshop. Opening a file or photograph and throw all sorts of filters and other adjustments on it.  Just untill I'm satisfied with the result. I have no plan up front. So the outcome is a suprise everytime.

I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy creating it. :pc:

(Also playing with Apophysis and Terragen sometimes.)
